The company trying to revolutionize the smartphone industry has a href="" target="_blank" reportedly /a decided to make Sprint an exclusive carrier partner, calling Sprint "the network of the future".

Sprint will be the exclusive carrier for the Essential Phone, and the company's President Niccolo de Masi said: "we like to bet with where we think the market is going as opposed to where the market was".

Sprint retail outlets will not be the only places for usa consumers to buy the Essential smartphone.

Essential has previously confirmed that the device will be sold for $699 unlocked, pitting it directly against other high-end phones like Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy S8. If purchased unlocked, the phone will work on all USA carriers.

Beyond that, de Masi reportedly cited Rubin's relationship with Masayoshi Son, the CEO of Japanese corporation SoftBank, which owns most of Sprint.

Rubin, known as the father of Android, worked at Google for many years, before moving to China to work for Xiaomi.

The Essential phone - officially dubbed Essential PH-1 - was unveiled late last month. In addition to Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile confirmed that the Essential Phone would work on their networks, but likely not to its full capacity. Sprint did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
