On Saturday, June 10, 2017, Santa Clara will host of one of almost 30 anti-Sharia marches planned nationwide by ACT for America, a non-profit organization which bills itself as the NRA of national security. But she and other group leaders often fall back on the argument that all practicing Muslims adhere to Sharia.

Dozens of what are being billed as "anti-Sharia marches" are scheduled for this weekend in 28 cities in 20 states nationwide. We're also confident, however, that most of these will be people from out of town, and Greater Waterbury folks - on both sides of this issue, as well as in the middle - will listen rather than yell. I urge Ms. Gabriele to consider withdrawing this gratuitous act and join us in a civilized conversation on Sharia in a symposium we are planning. "Sharia is incompatible with our Constitution and with American values", it says on the group's Facebook event.

CNY Solidarity Coalition rejects the mischaracterization of Sharia, and demonization of our Muslim neighbors by ACT for America and allied groups.

"No it's not. It's anti-Sharia", said Parish.

The American Congress for Truth for America has planned a rally from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m.at Stevens Creek Boulevard and Winchester Avenue, on the border with San Jose.

Violence in Portland forced the cancellation of an anti-Sharia protest there, so organizers vowed to hold it in Seattle instead.

Arsakan Buhkari, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Washington, an Islamic civil-rights organization, said the hate speech spewed by Christian on the train is the same sort of rhetoric found on ACT for America's web and social-media sites. This group has been described by the Southern Poverty Law Center as the largest grassroots anti-Muslim group in the U.S. InfoWars is now paying people who can make it on TV with a t-shirt or sign that says "CNN is ISIS".

If a Muslim who has-who is-a practicing Muslim who believes the word of the Koran to be the word of Allah, who abides by Islam, who goes to mosque and prays every Friday, who prays five times a day-this practicing Muslim, who believes in the teachings of the Koran, can not be a loyal citizen to the United States of America.

Kim said the counter protest welcomes everyone, and has received support from a variety of organizations, including some Republican groups. Members of other anti-government groups including the III Percenters, the Minnesota Minutemen, White Lives Matter and Sons of Odin said they would also attend in several states.

Asbury said late Wednesday night that the counter rally would be moved to the Islamic Society of Central New York, 925 Comstock Ave., Syracuse. I agree with the constitutional structure that we have in the United States, and almost every American Muslim you ask would say the same thing. The event begins at 10am at ISCNY, 925 Comstock Ave., Syracuse (some folks are meeting at Grace Church at 9:30 to walk to the mosque).

"Let's hope this protest that is taking place on Saturday is an opportunity for people to learn about all the opportunities that exists in the Twin Cites", Rev. Grant Abbott of the Saint Paul Interfaith Network said.

On one hand, the point of a gathering like this is nearly exclusively to get media attention. The group claims to have 280,000 members and more than 1,000 chapters.

"I didn't even know that there were refugees in the area", Rowe said.

"The management of all organizations have been in contact with us and everyone has been very forthright", said Deputy Chief Fernando Spagnolo of the Waterbury Police Department.

Local Muslim community members are asking Muslims to not go to the rallies in downtown Syracuse.
