Apple's Siri-powered smart speaker will reportedly debut next month

Now, doubters might think Apple is a bit late with this one.

That's according to unnamed "sources familiar with the project" who were speaking with Bloomberg.

A new rumor is flying around that claims that Apple is in production with the rumored Siri speaker to fight against the Amazon Echo among other products.

Google's and Amazon's connected speakers, the Home and Echo mostly don't support services from Apple. "And Apple has ground to make up in the market for digital assistants in the home", said Loup Ventures managing partner and former Apple analyst Gene Munster in a blog post.

Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller declined to comment.

While the rumored Apple speaker would directly compete with the Echo and Google Home, Siri has had a rudimentary ability to constantly listen and respond to "Hey, Siri" commands since the iPhone 6s was introduced in September 2015. That product was created to more closely resemble a Sonos-like Wifi-connected device without a smart assistant, and was killed by Apple following the acquisition. Apple reportedly has also mulled the idea of including sensors that auto-adjust sound levels based on room noise, which means it might be able to lower music if you're talking, but that's not confirmed. With its bulky size and high price point, the Hi-Fi flopped and was discontinued within 18 months of launching. Among other stunning feature, Siri speaker, which is being manufactured by Inventec, will sport "virtual" surround-sound technology.
