Rajinikanth welcome in politics, says ex-Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam

Reacting to hostile comments against him on social media recently, the superstar welcomed it and stated that opposition is a basic necessity to grow in politics.

The comments set tongues waging about his intentions on joining politics. For starters, he refuted the claims by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy that he was not Tamil, saying: "I lived in Karnataka for 23 years and in Tamil Nadu for 43 years". The "Kochadaiiyaan" star is against the system but not against any leader or politician.

"It is natural for Rajinikanth to talk about politics because there is now a vacuum caused by the death of Jayalalithaa and ill health of Karunanidhi", said former minister K.P. Munuswamy.

Addressing his fans, the "Kabali" star said in olden days the kings did not maintain a massive standing army, but when the situation warranted, all the men in the country would turn up for their motherland. "Then there is another view that why should I enter the scene when there are so many others to accomplish that task". He has even asked his fans not to be disappointed if he doesn't join the Indian politics as he would continue serving them through his movies.

"I have my profession, my job". Go back to your respective places and do your job. "Get ready for war", Rajinikanth roared to his fans in Chennai.

In 1996, during the Tamil Nadu assembly election campaign, Rajinikanth denounced J. Jayalalithaa and her politics. I have become a pachai tamizhan.

"The primary question posed against me is this: Is Rajinikanth a Tamil?"

"I did a mistake by supporting a political alliance 21 years ago".
