Mercedes has been selling the batteries in Europe and South Africa this year, but its partnership with Vivint, announced Thursday, represents its entrance into the US market.

So far, Tesla were the only ones providing powerwall storage batteries for cars from solar cells in the USA but Mercedes-Vivint collaboration will provide an option for customers in what appears to be a future of electric vehicles.

The systems are made up of 2.5 kWh batteries that can be stacked to create single units up to 20 kWh. This will also be Mercedes-Benz Energy's first collaboration with a US solar provider, bringing its premium, high-performance, road-tested technology for home use to the residential battery market.

They released the picture seen above of a home with both a Vivint solar installation and a Mercedes home battery pack.

Real Madrid were never afraid of Atletico comeback, insists Marcelo
Zinedine Zidane took over a Real Madrid side in crisis after Rafa Benitez was sacked midway through the 2015/16 season. Do you ever have any question about anything you wish to ask and get answer? Hello.

Vivint Solar, an offshoot of Vivint Smart Homes, a company that can trace its roots back to the late 1990s with Provo startup APX Alarm Security Solutions, has installed more than 100,000 solar energy systems across the USA since being launched by its parent company in 2011. It's also Mercedez's first foray into the US market. But in many other states, potential customers may be driven more by emotion - like feeling environmentally responsible or self-sufficient - than by cost savings.

Obviously, having a battery to store any extra power collected by your solar panels can be a huge benefit, as it allows you to use that power during peak hours, which are usually at night.

Vivint Solar, a Utah-based installation company with customers in 16 states, offers custom services for homeowners, including solar panel installation, smart home systems and storage. For those living in power zones with time-of-use electricity rates, users can store excess solar energy for consumption when energy costs shoot up, such as during nighttime.

Tesla's SolarCity has firmly placed itself at the forefront of the residential solar power solutions market, and now that it has come under the umbrella of Musk's company, it will probably continue to grow even faster. "We believe their energy storage system is going to delight our customers and are impressed with their ambitious plans for the future". Beginning in Q2, new customers in California will be able to buy the offering outright or finance the purchase, either through one of the institutions Vivint Solar has relationships with or their preferred lender. The company is responsible for the development and distribution of stationary energy storage under the Mercedes-Benz brand. The luxury carmaker is partnering with Vivint Solar in order to sell an intelligent solar ecosystem to California residents. That doesn't sound too bad, and if the price is right, Mercedes-Benz could certainly break into the energy scene here in the US. But a 20kWh system will only cost about $13,000 fully installed.
