Next up is a featherweight collision between rising Mexican star Yair Rodriguez and former two-time featherweight title challenger Frankie Edgar.

It was Edgar's fight from the early going. On paper, the bout between the 35-year-old Edgar and the 24-year-old Rodriguez was the best veteran vs. possible next superstar matchup we've seen in quite some time.

Edgar continued his assault with a big takedown against the cage before he began hammering away at Rodriguez from the top with punches and elbows from inside the guard.

Edgar landed 54 of his 78 strike attempts, 31 of which were considered significant, according to FightMetric. He moved to full mount.

As Rodriguez went to the corner, the ringside physician came into check on the swollen eye that was completely shut by this point in the fight. Rodriguez thinks about an armbar, but Edgar is smart to that, adjusts and gets right back to peppering him with punches and the occasional elbow.

Pedro could play, Willian could play, their defensive line could play. "This is a little bit our situation". Everybody can imagine, Roberto is a real mentality player, so he wants always [to play].

Rodriguez was like a turtle on his back with Edgar just having his way with the former "Ultimate Fighter" victor as the mouse on his eye just continued to swell with each shot landed.

The fight was over in the second round when the doctor had to step in and call the bout, and when you see why, you'll have absolutely not qualms with the decision to bring this one to a close.

"I have to send a heartfelt message out to my teammate Nick Catone (and his wife, who lost a child on Friday)". Edgar immediately goes to work with punches. After securing the takedown, Edgar held ground control for more than three minutes. I want the victor.

Well, to be more specific - and graphic, for that matter - what was really a mess was what happened to Rodriguez's eye in the bout.

The fight was stopped due to the damage on Rodriguez's left eye.
