Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart, right, and Washington Wizards forward Markieff Morris wrestle for a loose ball during the second half of Game 5 of a second-round National Basketball Association playoff series in Boston, Wednesday, May 10, 2017.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens said he was glad to see the team get back to winning ways after the Wizards had levelled the series after being 2-0 down.

Brooks acknowledged that was not the case in Boston's 123-101 victory in Game 5 on Wednesday, especially at the defensive end. Don't look now, but the Wizards have a mini-streak of their own: Each of the previous two playoff appearances ended with elimination games at home.

For example, Wall falls asleep and loses sight of Bradley on this possession, but it's because the Celtics use Thomas as a screener at the point of attack.

"[Celtics fans are] gonna do what they want to do", Wizards star John Wall said during his post-game press conference.

"It's the playoffs and we needed him to play that way", Thomas said.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Isaiah Thomas' Boston Celtics and John Wall's Washington Wizards have built something of a rivalry this season, going back and forth, trading wins on the court and barbs off it, from the "Funeral Game" in January to the lost tooth and ejection of their current playoff series.

Washington had a 16-0 spurt to start game one, a 22-0 run in game three and 26-0 burst in game four.

More hustle by Washington helped push Boston's turnover rate to 18 percent when it is on the road and the Wizards' points off turnovers per game to 25.5 in this series. The home team has won all nine games - with Boston 5-0 at home, where it has won eight straight over Washington. With Bradley as the primary defender, they held the Wizards superstar to 21 points.

California governor to release revised spending plan
Brown's budget does not include increased funding for repairs and replacement of some of the state's aging government buildings. The release of Brown's spending plan kicks off a month of negotiations with the Democrat-controlled Legislature.

Andy Murray "concerned" by manner of Madrid Open exit
The Scot delivered too many errors against a highly concentrated opponent in going down to his sixth defeat of the season. Coric, ranked 59th in the world. claimed a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win at La Caja Mágica.

Trump move with $1.2 trillion in trade could be risky — NAFTA
On the campaign trail, Trump regularly issued threats to the effect that he would seek a renegotiation of NAFTA. I think we'll be successful in the renegotiation, which, frankly, would be good because it would be simpler.

Boston won each quarter, and had four of their starting lineup score at least 18 points. A similar start on Friday night would amplify the pressure on Washington, and could take them out of the game early. That's why having Al Horford on the floor and in the locker room is so important.

The top scorer in the Eastern Conference this season, dropping 28.9 points per game, is talking screen-setting?

Oubre finished with 13 points and three rebounds in 19 active minutes. He's been even better against the Wizards, upping those percentages to 69 percent and 59 percent, respectively.

Celtics forward Al Horford had an outstanding performance, making 9-of-10 shots, including 3-of-4 three-pointers, for 19 points with seven assists and six rebounds. "We stick behind him".

Much of that should be credited to Horford, who blocked three shots in the win. Wall looked timid for much of the evening, and Horford played a big part in that.

He's made the most of being healthy this time around.

Avery Bradley has been doing all the little things to get the Boston Celtics over the hump this postseason.

After two games of getting physically outplayed in DC, the Celtics were the aggressors in Game 5, leading Wizards tough guy Markieff Morris to say simply, "They beat our ass". It's often excessive and downright frustrating, but it's one of their deadliest weapons. They came out and put on a show in the first quarter, which was a first in this series. The Boston Celtics are shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 75.7 percent from the free throw line. Surprisingly, Crowder is third at 44 percent (10-of-23). A bad word at a sporting event - the horror! Later they booed him loudly when he touched the ball.

Behind Bradley the C's jumped out to an early double-digit lead and never relinquished it. And we may even be treated to some more slick dance moves from "The Clynk". The Celtics did win a series clinching game 6 on the road already this postseason against Chicago in the first round.
