PM makes pledge on mental health

"Milton Keynes now provides Improved Access to Psycological Therapies through our "Talk for Change" service who receive some 6000 referrals per year".

The figures come from the Mental Health Foundation to mark Mental Health Awareness Week and show that more than half the population (65 per cent) have experienced a mental health problem, such as depression or a panic attack.

"We want to give them the help they need to be the best person they can be so they can be productive in our community", Taylor said.

"During Mental Health Awareness Week, rather than ask why so many people are living with mental health problems, it is important to uncover why too few of us are thriving with good mental health". Sometimes people - especially young people - struggling with mental health concerns, develop habits and behaviors that increase the risk of developing mental illnesses, and these habits and behaviors could be signs of mental health problems themselves. They appear to be offering no extra funding and have consistently raided mental health budgets over the last seven years.

This post was prepared with the kind assistance of Andy Bell, Deputy Chief Executive of the Centre for Mental Health, a charity dedicated to changing the lives of people with mental health problems by improving support and bringing about fairer policies.

The May 13 walk through central London ends in Battersea Park and aims to highlight the discrimination faced by those experiencing mental illness. If things are getting on top of you, there is further help available through Mind.

As Ellen Scott put it, 'we still need to be talking about mental health'. "I constantly think of different ways, you know - that can take up a whole evening". With this campaign, we want to let people know that they're not alone. I wanted more effective linkages and co-ordination between District Health Boards and the large number of community agencies active in the mental health and addictions space, both to develop services better tailored to people's needs and also to bridge, wherever, possible, gaps in service provision.

Again, those who recognize the symptoms of depression were much more likely to recommend professional help than those who didn't recognize the symptoms.

"Mental Health Awareness Week is a great opportunity to stop and assess whether there are steps that can be taken to look after your mental health better".

Mental health difficulties in the workplace are often assumed to be "work-related stress".

The trust's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Herefordshire provides specialist mental health services for children and young people in the county, as well as their families and carers. It is often hard to distinguish these behaviors from "normal growing up", and, as a result, the people who care about people engaging in these struggles sometimes under-react, and other times over-react. If it is, there are suggestions on what can be done before it becomes a harmful behavior. Disclosing mental health issues is not the easiest thing for employees so it's essential that open and honest communication is supported by members of management.

Donna Melling, English teacher at Tuition Service, said: "This project is integral to everything we do here at Tuition". While a lot of attention has focused on things like pre-existing conditions, one of the less considered issues is what may happen to the treatment of mental illness and substance abuse.
