Rosenstein's confirmation comes after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from any investigations into Russia's involvement in the 2016 election.

Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of CT, who opposed Rosenstein's confirmation, said Tuesday he was unsatisfied with his answers on appointing an independent investigator to look into Russian Federation.

A Justice Department spokesman did not respond to a question about when Rosenstein will be sworn in. Ben Cardin of Maryland described Rosenstein as someone who "will not yield to partisan pressure" and said it is "good to know that we have that kind of person that we can confirm [for] deputy attorney general".
