EPA chief: Agency to reconsider methane emissions rule

On Friday, Politico reported that federal budget cuts will likely hit the EPA hard, and the budget instructs the EPA to identify two regional offices for closure by June 15. Those proposed cuts could eliminate or drastically reduce funding to research programs, infrastructure programs, lead exposure prevention efforts and environmental enforcement at the federal level.

John O'Grady, president of AFGE Council 238, the union that represents EPA employees, said: "This Administration wants to cut at least 3,100 full-time employees, yet the March 21, 2017, budget document indicates cuts as high as 4,000 full-time employees".

The Trump administration's proposed budget calls for a 31% cut to the budget, including cuts to the agency's environmental justice program.

Of course, by Republican measures, those EPA employees working to make sure Americans have clean water, clean air, and decent living conditions aren't doing real jobs.

This office is responsible for holding the companies accountable for their share of the cleanup, such as a 2014 action that forced Atlantic Richfield and DuPont to spend an estimated $21 million at the East Chicago Superfund site.
