Within a short time after the announcement, a celebratory dance party was being organized via Facebook by Chaffetz's critics who were happy he was leaving office. "I may run again for public office, but not in 2018", Chaffetz said. According to The Blaze, the Republican said he did not believe one should spend their entire career in politics, and after 1,500 nights away from his family over his time in office, it was time to step away.

Jason Chaffetz unexpectedly announced Wednesday that he would not run for reelection in 2018 or any other office.

A former Chaffetz aide told Reuters the congressman may seek to run for Utah governor in 2020, though no firm decision had been made yet.

Assuming Chaffetz still has gubernatorial ambitions, then, in a best-Chaffetz scenario, our lovely Benghazi boy hopes to enjoy a solid eight years as governor of Utah before finally making good on what appear to be presidential aspirations.

Chaffetz represents Utah's 3rd Congressional District. But Chaffetz has been reluctant do so, despite getting an earful from his constituents during a February town hall meeting.

Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes, R-Draper, another possible contender, did not return a request for comment Wednesday. Chaffetz repeatedly said, "hold on", and "give me a second", as audience members in a Salt Lake City suburb reacted negatively to almost all of his statements and implored him to "do your job" and investigate Trump.

Rep. John Duncan, Tenn., is the second-most senior Republican on the panel, but he also holds seniority on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he might prefer to claim the gavel once Rep. Bill Shuster's, R-Pa., term as chairman ends.

Astronomers discover 'Super-Earth' planet that could support life
But if LHS 1140b was able to withstand the brunt of its star's radiation, it's possible signs of life are lurking there. In our Solar System, such a planet would be so scorched that any atmosphere and surface water would be stripped away.

Former South Korean president facing possible life sentence
Park will reportedly remain in jail and will be escorted to Seoul , South Korea once the trial for the scandal begins. In its indictment of Park on Monday, the prosecution added new charges of soliciting bribes from Lotte and SK groups.

Watching the House Oversight Committee's hearings on Benghazi, Dewberry said he was impressed by Chaffetz's questioning. Has it been merely partisan hackery, or has Chaffetz had a more specific reason?

After Trump was inaugurated, Chaffetz rather provocatively suggested that he planned to remain a national figure because of Clinton, not Trump.

"Jason Chaffetz has been a valuable member of the Republican team, and we wish him the best as he begins this new chapter in his life", he said.

"Serving is an honor and a privilege that I have never taken for granted", Chaffetz said in a Facebook post.

If he assumes that Trump wins reelection in 2020 (which, as a Republican, he ought to, right?) then Chaffetz seems to be planning to run against an unknown future president seeking a second term.

While Chaffetz's decision removes a high-profile foe of House Democrats, the seat he will vacate does not appear ripe for pickup.

While Chaffetz declined to investigate Trump, he did criticize a top Trump aide who promoted Ivanka Trump's fashion line during a cable TV appearance from the White House.
