President Donald Trump on Sunday night accused news organizations of downplaying the special congressional election in Kansas after the Republican candidate won - and suggested the same will happen in the upcoming Georgia special election.

The midterm elections can seem very far away, particularly when a single day in the Trump administration-say, April 11, 2017-can bring public threats toward North Korea, the president mixing up which country, exactly, he'd dropped bombs on (that'd be Syria, not Iraq), and what sounded an terrible lot like a press secretary complimenting Hitler's use of restraint.

Mr Cobb was speaking specifically about Democrat John Ossoff, who is campaigning for Georgia's 6th congressional district.

A 30-year old Democrat is leading the race to win a seat held by Republicans for nearly 40 years. Ossoff has benefited from the state's crowded "jungle primary", in which 18 candidates are competing and Ossoff has managed to distinguish himself among the Democrats. They hope to force a June runoff with the GOP's top candidate by keeping Ossoff below 50 percent of the vote.

Republican Karen Handel, a former Georgia secretary of state, was the early favorite to emerge. National Republicans have tried to blunt his financial advantage, pouring more than $4 million of their own money into the race to try to tear Ossoff down, claiming he's embellished his resume and would vote in lock-step with national Democrats.

For almost 20 years, this loyal Democrat did what majority do: She went to the voting booth only for presidential contests and ignored everything from congressional elections to governor's races.
