President Trump on NATO: 'It's no longer obsolete'

Ahead of President Trump's meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Washington, senior White House officials said the US supports Montenegro's investigation into the alleged Russian-backed plot to thwart the Balkan nation from joining the western security alliance.

"At a joint press conference with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Trump said that he will continue to work closely with NATO allies, particularly when it comes to fighting terrorism".

'I complained about that a longer time ago and they made a change and now they do fight terrorism.

"President Trump congratulates the Montenegrin people for their resilience and their demonstrated commitment to NATO's democratic values", the White House said.

Trump critiqued NATO in 2016 for not enforcing its members spend at least 2 percent of GDP on defense, which is required under NATO treaty.

Trump says Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is looking into the question of whether Russian Federation knew about the attack ahead of time.

He was a frequent critic of USA taking action in Syria, but launched missiles at the country last week in response to Syria's use of chemical weapons against citizens, including children.

He is well aware that if he can coax Kennedy off the bench, he can grant conservatives control over the court indefinitely. Justice Neil Gorsuch thanked his former law clerks, family and friends as he was sworn into the Supreme Court.

"That's a butcher", Trump said of Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad.

Trump's proposed budget for the coming fiscal year would boost US military spending by 10 percent, while making deep cuts in development and foreign aid.

Trump talked often about getting along with Russian Federation and Vladimir Putin throughout the campaign.

"Trust at the working level, especially at the military level, hasn't gotten better; rather, it's deteriorated", Putin said in an interview with the Mir TV channel that aired Wednesday.

"In fact I can tell you, the money is pouring in", he said. The U.S. says Russian Federation tried to cover up the gas attack and may have been complicit in the atrocity.

"We need many different tools to stabilize our neighborhood", Stoltenberg said last month.

President Donald Trump says the "not getting along with Russian Federation at all" and relations between the two global powers are at an "all-time low". "I have absolutely no doubt we did the right thing, and it was very, very successfully done", he added.
