Bruins' Brad Marchand suspended 2 games for spearing

The Boston Bruins missed the National Hockey League playoffs the past two years by just one game, but last night made sure there would be no third straight season of disappointment, beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 to clinch a playoff spot before a grateful sold out home town crowd.

Assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for the spear in what finished as a 4-0 victory for the Bruins, the two-game ban comes as a result of the vicious nature of the incident. Dotchin gave Marchand a very light cross check in front of the Lightning goal, and Marchard turned around and whacked the guy in the nuts with his stick.

Now that Brad Marchand has received his discipline, it's time to hear what you have to say on the matter.

The game will be on NBCSN and we hope it's a good one. Heading into Tuesday, both teams have played 78 games with Ottawa holding a four-point edge in the standings - 92 points to the Lightning's 88.

Unfortunately for the B's, one of their best players-left wing Brad Marchand-undermined some of the excitement by spearing Lightning defenseman Jake Dotchin in the groin late in the first period.

Umpire stomps on inflated condom that delayed Brewers-Cubs game
Stats: Szczur is 0 for 3 with one run scored in three games. "He insisted he was good, but I wasn't convinced". So when the 95-to-97 comes back, it's going to be tough for teams. "I thought we did a great job".

"We got nothing out of it".

ROSTER SHUFFLING? The return of MacArthur bumped Colin White from the lineup, but could White get a shot against the Bruins?

"It was an undisciplined penalty". Marchand was suspended four times for 12 games total prior to this punishment. The under is 4-0 in Bruins last 4 vs. a team with a winning record and the Bruins are 6-0 in their last 6 overall while the Bruins are 4-0 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest.

NOTES: Boston C Patrice Bergeron went 17-0 on faceoffs. The forward, who sits on 39 goals and 85 points through 80 regular season games, has been suspended four times in the past and fined twice - including a fine already this year for a risky trip to opponent Niklas Kronwall. "Hopefully the circumstances are enough for him to realize what he did", said Neely. Curtis McElhinney finished with 34 saves for the Maple Leafs, who lost for just the second time in nine games. If it's on the lower end, it's fortunate for he and his Bruins teammates, given that they clinched the playoffs on Tuesday with two games left in the regular season.
