The eight-year-gelding - who was featured in H&H's Grand National preview (6 April) - was given a confident ride by Derek Fox to beat recent Cheltenham Festival victor Cause Of Causes into second.

One For Arthur has won the world " s most famous steeplechase, taking out the Grand National for Scottish trainer Lucinda Russell and jockey Derek Fox.

He added: "The racecourses here in Scotland, they are the best administered, the best racecourses I've ever come across".

"I suppose facing into the second-last I thought we had a chance, but when the eventual victor loomed up on the run to the last I kind of felt he had plenty of horse left", he added.

Ms Russell, whose partner and assistant is former champion jockey Peter Scudamore, said the win was "out of this world".

One For Arthur is only the second Scottish-trained victor of the race, 38 years since Rubstic last achieved the feat.

The 14-1 shot saw off the other 39 runners and riders having been one of the dark-horses for the race having finished strongly in the Becher Chase in December before winning comfortably at Warwick.

One For Arthur is owned by the Two Golf Widows, Deborah Thomson and Belinda McClung, and they were left in disbelief after watching their horse triumph by four and a half lengths. It's been an absolutely unbelievable day.

"This is a fairy tale but for excellent medical care I wouldn't have made it", said Fox, 24. Arthur just cruised that race, Derek rode so well and I'm just a bit lost for words really.

Krone, then 29, did not wish to make anything of her landmark win: "I don't think the question has to be genderised".

"He's a fabulous horse and you only have to ride him once or twice to know he's a real superstar. I'm 35 now, so to have it down on the CV that I've ridden in the Grand National is brilliant". We're very lucky we've got some fantastic vets that work for us.
