New 'Beauty and the Beast' film to feature first gay Disney character

The classic Disney story tells the tale of a young woman who falls in love with a beast while trapped in his castle.

A modern-day princess! The cast of the live-action Beauty and the Beast remake can't help gushing over the movie's leading lady in a new featurette for the film, available to watch above.

Gad's character also sends a positive message to a new generation of Beauty and the Beast fans.

Director Bill Condon told Attitude magazine that LeFou, who is the sidekick to Gaston, the villain, will have a side story about his sexuality.

Beauty and the Beast stars Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar victor Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle's eccentric, but lovable father; and Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston's long-suffering aide-de-camp. He would realize he has those unusual feelings, but he would make something really subtle and delicious out of it in "Beauty and the Beast".

Bill Condon, the director of the upcoming "Beauty and the Beast" live action remake, said the movie will feature Disney's first "exclusively gay moment".

LeFou's sexuality has been reportedly written into the script as a tribute to Howard Ashman - the original film's lyricist who was gay and died of AIDS in 1991 before the film's release.

"Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it".

Earlier this week, Disney Channel XD's Star vs the Forces of Evil featured a same-sex kiss with back-ground characters.

"The thing that bothers me the most is that they waited until people had already purchased tickets and let their kids get excited about the movie to announce this", another said.

This small clip from the Emma Watson-Dan Stevens starrer makes you want to giggle when McGregor's Lumiere says, "Yes, the poohr tshing in there is probably scaared to death". This version of Beauty and the Beast will be so much more than just a film on the screen, and the filmmakers are making sure of it.
