GUAM - Dog racing may be gone for good on Guam. This afternoon from the desk of Senator Tom Ada, comes bill number 406-30. This bill seeks to prohibit dog racing on Guam by removing all provisions in Guam law that allow dog racing.

This bill will also prevent a repeat of the events that followed from the closure of Guam Greyhound Park in November 2008, when hundreds of hapless greyhounds roamed the streets of this island and were left to fend for themselves.

If passed, Guam will join 36 other states that have outlawed gambling on dog races.

This marks a step forward for animal lovers on Guam. As the uproar crescendoed over the release and inhumane treatment of greyhounds in 2008, Senator Judy Guthertz noted, "The treatment of animals, indeed any species, is indicative of how we function as a society. I am a firm believer that the way one treats animals often reflects their inherent human condition."
